Mt. Whitney

This weekend I am setting out to climb Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states. At this time of year there is a lot of snow on the trail. We will be using snow shoes to gain altitude at the lower elevations and crampons/ice axes to aid our ascent at the higher elevations. Our adventure is set to take place over 2 days. The first day will take us 6.3 miles and 3,640' closer to our 14,496' goal. On day two we plan to summit, climbing 2,495' from trail camp to the top of Mt. Whitney. Certainly, celebrations will be in order if we summit. After reaching the top (that is, if we do reach the top, and of course irregardless of) we will climb down to camp, pack up, and head all the way back home. It surely will be a long day. Some of us have experience. More of us lack it. But we are all in good shape and ready to take on mother nature. With the utmost respect, Mt. Whitney, here we come.

Stay tuned for updates...
